Kate Randle Romance Author

A romance author with www.thewildrosepress.com, Kate used to write academic essays and decided to turn her writing skills to the creation of fiction. Her books center around the things she loves like the ocean and tropical islands. I asked her these questions:

  1. When did you first know that you wanted to be a writer?

I started writing about two years ago and fell in love with it. I’ve been a lifelong reader of romance novels and thought it would be so much fun to write one. It was fun…and a lot of hard work, but I’m loving every minute of being a writer.

  1. How do you get ideas for your fictional characters?

I read a lot and watch a ton of television. Sometimes, my ideas come from those sources and other times my ideas are from people I meet, or experiences I have. Then, I mix it all up and come up with my characters.

  1. hat is the personality trait that you admire most about your hero in your book (your choice)?

In my novel, “In Pursuit of Paradise”, I admire the fact that Nick can make changes to his life when he has become so set in his ways. Change is hard, but I think he handles it in a way that inspires me, and hopefully my readers too.

  1. What personality trait do you admire most about you heroine in (same book)?

I love the fact that Lily never really gives up on finding true love. Although she’s made some mistakes, she keeps on trying. Her courage is admirable and I think readers will connect with that.

  1. Have you ever had manuscripts rejected? How did you handle that?

Yes, I had lots of rejections early in my career. What I’ve learned as a writer is that I need to take the advice from the rejections that work for me, edit, and move on.

  1. What is one funny quirk about you?

One funny quirk about me is that I love to collect mugs. I’m a huge coffee lover and I collect mugs from all of my travels. That way, when I’m enjoying my morning coffee, I can remember all of the fun places I have visited.

  1. Do you outline your plots ahead of time or fly by the seat of your pants?

I didn’t really plot out my books in the past, but I have recently begun experimenting with plotting ahead. I want to see if it makes a difference in my writing. The jury is still out on that one.

  1. What modern authors do you admire and emulate?

There are so many authors that I love and admire, I couldn’t possibly name them all here. But some of the ones that fueled my passion for reading include Danielle Steel, Nora Roberts and Fern Michaels.

  1. What is your goal for your writing?

My goal for writing is to create a fun, romantic and memorable escape for my readers. I want to take them away from the everyday and immerse them in the world of fiction.

  1. How do you choose a setting?

The settings that I chose vary based on the characters and plot. But one thing that I always try to include in my novels, is a beautiful beach escape. I love the sun, sand and ocean and I can’t stop myself from including some of the most stunning beaches I have ever seen into my books.
